The collaboration provides health systems with evidence-based solutions to address medical device safety, infection control, and medication practices.
HANYS Marketplace, a subsidiary of the Healthcare Association of New York State, has partnered with ECRI, a nonprofit organization focused on healthcare safety and quality, to provide New York hospitals and health systems with evidence-based solutions to protect patients and improve medical care efficiency.
The partnership allows healthcare organizations to use safety science and systems thinking to build safety infrastructures. ECRI experts address specific care delivery challenges, including medication safety, infection prevention, and workflow inefficiencies. These strategies are informed by a database of more than 8 million safety incidents, which the organization analyzes to identify hazards and prevent harm.
“Healthcare organizations today need partners that can help them improve outcomes while navigating increasingly complex operational and clinical challenges,” says Al Campanella, HANYS Marketplace executive vice president, in a release. “ECRI is the most trusted voice in healthcare, and that reputation for independence and evidence-based guidance makes it a valuable addition to the HANYS Marketplace family of partners.”
The collaboration focuses on several key areas, including infection prevention and control, medical device evaluations, safe medication practices, clinical evidence assessments, and risk management programs. ECRI also provides guidance for healthcare accident investigations, workplace culture changes that encourage safety reporting, and education for healthcare professionals.

The organization provides independent guidance and data-driven recommendations to help healthcare leaders manage workforce shortages, shrinking budgets, and evolving technologies, according to the press release.
