Huntington Hospital, a 625-bed hospital located in Pasedena, Calif, has installed nine Carestream DRX-Revolution Mobile x-ray systems, in addition to retrofitting two existing portable systems with DRX Plus 3543C detectors and acquiring a small-format DRX 2530C detector for use in its care of neonatal patients. All of these solutions will be used to improve the care provided in the hospital’s emergency department, intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, and operating rooms.

“The DRX-Revolution systems deliver high-resolution images that can help our physicians quickly and accurately assess and treat acute care patients, as well as inpatients who require bedside exams,” says Ranilo Blasco, manager of radiology at Huntington Hospital. “We standardized on these systems because of the platform’s innovative design and its ability to deliver excellent quality images as well as reliability and maneuverability.”

One of benefits with the DRX-Revolution units is operating room technologists can position them to enable surgeons to view images on the tube monitor or using the console—without moving away from patients. In addition, physicians are looking forward to using Carestream’s software because it delivers a companion image with optimized visualization of tubes and lines. This capability is helpful to physicians because it allows them to properly position tubes and lines for grievously ill or injured patients; it also allows them to detect pneumothorax. Absent this solution, additional x-rays would need to be captured of these patients.

The hospital’s conversion from computed radiography to digital radiography has improved image quality, while lowering the dose required to obtain high-quality images; this is particularly important for crisis intervention unit and neonatal intensive care unit patients. Faster and lighter than the hospital’s previous detectors, Carestream’s new DRX Plus detectors are designed to help users be more productive, improve image quality, and lower dose.

In addition, the detectors offer faster calibration time, boot time, full-resolution display time, and preview time. Because of their calibration file storage capabilities, it’s easier to set up the projectors on multiple systems.
