Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc, Tustin, Calif, which specializes in diagnostic and medical imaging, has introduced Aquilion ONE, a dynamic volume computed tomography (CT) system that helps reduce diagnosis time from days and hours to minutes for life-threatening diseases such as heart disease and stroke.

The organ or area is captured in a single rotation at one moment in time, eliminating the need to reconstruct slices from multiple points in time.

Physicians see a 3-D depiction of an organ—such as the heart or brain—and its dynamic blood flow and function. The scan covers up to 16 cm of anatomy with 320 ultra-high resolution 0.5 mm detector elements, which helps reduce exam time, and radiation and contrast dose. Its ability to perform functional studies helps reduce the need for multiple, duplicative tests and invasive procedures.
