After one year on the market, patient monitoring manufacturer Covidien announces that its Alarm Management System (AMS) for the Nellcor OxiMax N-600x pulse oximeter now operates in more than 100 hospitals in the US, Canada, Asia, and Europe, with more than 3,000 licenses sold.

The Alarm Management System with OxiMax SPD technology minimizes nuisance alarms by monitoring oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels — a critical measure of respiratory function.

The system identifies desaturation patterns indicative of repetitive reductions in airflow. It alerts staff to potentially dangerous situations, such as drastic drops and recurring moderate reductions in airflow, even when the patient has not dropped below the SpO2 threshold. The system also provides clinicians with both historical and real-time information about a patient’s condition.

“At Covidien we are committed to providing industry leading respiratory and monitoring systems that enhance patient safety and meet the complex needs of the 21st century healthcare environment,” says Pete Wehrly, president, respiratory and monitoring solutions, Covidien.

The Nellcor N-600x pulse oximeter is a full-featured oximeter system that delivers reliable readings even during low perfusion and signal interference.
