It is not the monitor if only the image sector is grainy. Check to see if other imaging modes, such as M mode, PW, or color Doppler, are exhibiting any artifacts. If the problem is only in 2D and M modes, I would consider replacing the BMP board. However, try reloading software before replacing any hardware.
