Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc has announced the successful installation of two of the company’s Aquilion 32-slice CT systems at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis (The MED), Tenn. The new systems were installed in the center’s Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center—the nation’s third largest Level 1 trauma center—and will play an integral role in evaluating the center’s most seriously injured patients.
According to James Langston, MD, clinical director of emergency radiology at The MED, the decision to install two 32-slice CT systems is in response to the community’s immense demand for trauma services – ranging from auto accidents to penetrating trauma. “Since its inception in 1983, our center has served more than 80,000 trauma patients from six states, so it is important that we have the latest technology to ensure that our patients receive the fastest and best care available.”
The MED has been at the forefront of using technology as it relates to serving the health care requirements of its community and continues to invest in the latest diagnostic imaging systems. In addition to the center’s acquisition of two Aquilion 32-slice CTs, the center also has purchased and installed two Aplio™ ultrasound systems and Toshiba’s Kalare™ and T.RAD™ digital X-ray systems.
