Carestream has received FDA clearance for two new premium ultrasound systems. The Touch Prime and Touch Prime XE are the first products to hit the market from Carestream’s new, all-touch family of ultrasound systems, developed with input from ultrasound professionals around the world. The systems are expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2015.

“These new ultrasound systems build upon our proven expertise in digital x-ray systems,” said Diana L. Nole, president, Digital Medical Solutions, Carestream. “We started with a clean slate and worked with customers to develop a new generation of ultrasound systems that enhance ease of use and productivity, while incorporating integrated GPU processing power that delivers fast response times and extremely high image quality.”

The Touch Prime XE is capable of frame rates in excess of 100Hz and includes the company’s Touch Prime SynTek architecture, a combination of technologies that provide enhanced spatial detail with increased frame rates while reducing noise and artifacts. Imaging and Doppler improvements enable more consistent visualization of subtle tissue contrast differences and can improve the ability to see small structures. Optional features such as DICOM, wireless connectivity, barcode and badge readers, and elastography are also available.

Both systems include a sealed, all-touch control panel that offers a soft user interface while providing the tactile feedback of traditional keys. Etched markings enable users to locate primary keys without looking away from the display monitor. A “swipe and go” badge login system ensures secure access while saving time, and “smart connect” transducer technology allows one-touch selection of the desired transducer. The systems have a cold boot time of 18 seconds and a small footprint for easy maneuverability and faster imaging.
