The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are collaborating to present the S3 Challenge 2015, a 2-day forum that brings together professionals from across the medical industry to resolve challenges related to the use of global standards. The event takes place April 1–2, 2015, at the Hyatt Dulles hotel in Herndon, Va.

First introduced in 2014, the S3 Challenge 2015 will focus on IEC 60601, the centerpiece of medical electrical equipment standards. According to AAMI, the session will include perspectives from the FDA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and other industry representatives on the values and challenges of using the standard. Attendees will be invited to participate in discussions about electrical and mechanical hazards and how to effectively assess and manage risk throughout the life cycle of a device.
