Patients at New Jersey’s Jane Osborne Center for Women’s Health at Cape May Regional will now have access to Hologic’s Genius 3-D mammography exams. With its advanced breast tomosynthesis technology, exams conducted using the system are clinically proven to increase the detection of breast cancers while decreasing the number of events when women will be asked to return for follow-up testing.

Approved by the FDA for breast tomosynthesis, the Genius 3-D mammography system is suitable for all women, regardless of their age and breast density. Radiologists using the system will be able to more effectively detect the size, location, and shape of any abnormalities.

According to a June 2014 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, use of the Genius exam led to a 41% increase in the detection of invasive breast cancers, a 29% increase in the detection of all breast cancers, and a 15% decrease in events where women were recalled for follow-up imaging.
