Iowa Methodist Medical Center recently installed the SOMATOM Definition AS 64-slice CT scanner from Siemens Healthcare, which can be used for both imaging and interventional procedures.

The SOMATOM scanner has a wide gantry opening (78 cm–82 cm) for better access and patient comfort. It also features 3D image guidance in combination with path planning tools and needle artifact prevention.

Siemens equipped the scanner with its adaptive 3D interventional suite—a solution for nonfluoroscopic and fluoroscopic minimal invasive 3D volume interventions. Capable of spiral, sequence, and fluoroscopic CT-guided interventional procedures, the suite also features Siemens’ HandCARE, which allows physicians to turn off the radiation exposure at various angles in the CT gantry while doing the procedure.
