Carestream will demonstrate the benefits of its OnSight 3D Extremity System that leverages cone-beam (CBCT) technology in the capture of high-quality, low-dose 3D exams at the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society conference that starts July 20. Pending FDA 510(k) clearance, the system adds value because its 3D images can help educate patients about their treatment or surgical options.

Unlike traditional CT scanners, Caresteam’s CBCT scanner captures weight-bearing images at the point of care. This capability may allow it to serve as a noninvasive tool for the evaluation of orthopedic conditions including arthritis, meniscus loss, and instability—all of which can have an impact on the biomechanical behavior of feet, ankles, and other joints.

“Orthopedic imaging is a major focus for Carestream because of the prevalence of musculoskeletal conditions among people of all ages,” says Helen Titus, Carestream’s marketing director for worldwide CT and ultrasound solutions. “Our goal is to offer a compact, affordable imaging system that enables a variety of health care providers to produce extremely high-quality 3D images of extremities including weight-bearing exams.”
