Are OEM boards more reliable then non-OEM or refurbished boards?

A good measure of parts quality in general is the supplier’s willingness to provide you with a long-term warranty. Is it one full year or just 30 days? If there are issues, how willing is the supplier to get you a replacement part immediately and deal with the reasons for the failure after your equipment is returned to service? OEMs typically provide replacement parts from an exchange pool just as a reputable supplier would. Non-OEM or refurbished parts can be as good as an OEM’s and a significant cost savings.

Ask about your supplier’s quality assurance (QA) process. Are they pulling boards out of equipment they just bought off of EBAY, or do they have a validated, multilevel QA program that they are willing to stand behind?
