The FDA-cleared update automates measurement tasks and provides clinical decision support to improve imaging workflow.
Royal Philips received FDA 510(k) clearance for Elevate Plus, bringing AI and automation capabilities to its EPIQ Elite and Affiniti ultrasound systems. The technology is designed to standardize routine exams and reduce the need for repeat scans, delivering consistent ultrasound images across different users.
“Elevate Plus underscores our commitment to advancing AI-powered ultrasound to help clinicians deliver more consistent, efficient, and confident ultrasound care to patients,” says Jie Xue, chief business leader, precision diagnosis, Philips, in a release.
The system includes Auto Measure Abdomen, which uses AI to automate routine measurement steps. According to Philips, these measurements deliver over 93% accuracy compared to manual measurements by clinical experts.
“Elevate Plus is a game changer for our ultrasound workflow. Automating key measurement tasks allows our sonographers to reduce scanning time by up to 30% without sacrificing clinical precision,” says Gretchen Sammy, ultrasound manager, Boston Medical Center, in a release.
The update also integrates Koios AI decision support directly onto the ultrasound systems. This software allows clinicians to classify breast lesions and thyroid nodules, assessing the risk of malignancy in under 2 seconds. The tool uses a database of more than 350,000 pathology-proven cases to support lesion classification.
New imaging enhancements include XRes Pro+, designed to provide cleaner tissue detail and sharper boundaries across various patient body types. Additionally, Super Res MVI Pro enhances microvascular flow visualization to provide clearer insights into blood flow.
“By automating key measurement tasks with AI, Elevate Plus has the potential to significantly reduce scanning time while maintaining clinical accuracy,” says Maria Cristina Chammas, director of ultrasound division, Hospital das Clínicas, School of Medicine, University of São Paulo, in a release. “This can help improve workflow efficiency and reduce the repetitive manual steps that contribute to sonographer fatigue, while supporting more consistent results across our team.”
The EPIQ Elite and Affiniti platforms are designed as modular, upgradable systems to extend their lifespan. The systems also include built-in telehealth support to promote consistency across care teams and sites.
