Manufacturing, shipping, and cardiac device remote monitoring activations have resumed following the Aug 25 network disruption.
Boston Scientific has restored its manufacturing, order fulfillment, and shipping operations following an Aug 25 cybersecurity disruption, according to an update released by the company.
In addition, the company stated that products are moving through its distribution network “at or above” normal levels as personnel work to clear order backlogs and deliver products to healthcare facilities.
Boston Scientific also reported that the network disruption impact to remote monitoring activations has been resolved and activation capability has been restored. Specifically, the company confirmed that remote monitoring activations for cardiac device implant communicators and ICM remote monitoring have resumed.
Assessments Confirm No Compromise to Device Technologies
Following containment actions launched on Aug 25, the manufacturer engaged external forensic specialists to evaluate its infrastructure. According to the company, independent assessments from CrowdStrike and other third-party cybersecurity experts have not identified evidence of ongoing threat activity nor evidence of compromise to the Boston Scientific systems or product technologies.
The company stated that the verified areas include:
- Product development systems
- Product software systems
- Manufacturing and medical device maintenance systems
- Software and business applications
- Cloud-based systems, email platforms, and external collaboration platforms
Boston Scientific also noted that customers and vendors may continue normal communications with sales representatives and staff via email and digital channels.
Backlog Processing and Ongoing Recovery
As order fulfillment accelerates, Boston Scientific stated it is addressing orders that were pending prior to the Aug 25 incident, as well as orders submitted during the downtime. While some healthcare facilities may encounter temporary delivery delays, the company stated it is prioritizing distribution resources to support ongoing clinical demand and minimize impacts on patient care.
The manufacturer noted that it continues to bring business applications back online, adding that affected stakeholders will receive direct notifications as individual applications are restored.
“The substantial progress achieved reflects the extraordinary dedication of employees, cybersecurity experts and partners across the company, whose collaborative efforts helped restore operations and support customers and patient care,” reads the company update.
