In recognition of her contributions to the U.S. and international standardization system, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has named Mary Logan, president and CEO emeritus of AAMI, as the 2017 recipient of the George S. Wham Leadership Medal.
This award?named in honor of George S. Wham, the technical director at Good Housekeeping who served as a past chairman of the ANSI Board of Directors?recognizes an individual who has provided direction and long-range planning to the ANSI standards federation in commitment and support of the national and/or international standards system or in a specific area of voluntary standardization.

Prior to her retirement at the beginning of this year, Logan served on the ANSI Board of Directors and the ANSI Executive Committee. She also chaired the Organization Member Forum from 2014–2016, energizing the group to explore new ideas and solutions to the issues facing today’s standards community.
“Standards play such a crucial role in making medical devices safe and effective for patients, and ANSI is the organization that sets the rules for developing U.S. standards, approves the final documents once they are developed, and represents the U.S. voice on standards development throughout the world. That’s all essential to AAMI’s work,” Logan says.
“It is an honor to be selected by such an esteemed organization to receive the George S. Wham Leadership Medal, but this award really belongs to the AAMI standards staff and all of the dedicated volunteers who collaborate on the development of AAMI standards,” Logan adds. “It was their ideas, concerns, and passion that allowed me to be a successful leader on the ANSI Board.”
Logan and the 21 other winners of ANSI’s 2017 Leadership and Service Awards will be honored during an October 18 ceremony held as part of World Standards Week 2017 in Washington, D.C.
