The agreement with VitalGo Systems Ltd aims to improve recovery for critically ill patients through early mobilization technology.
Agiliti, a manufacturer and provider of medical device solutions, has reached an exclusive agreement with VitalGo Systems Ltd to be the sole US provider of the Total Lift Bed. This partnership expands the Agiliti portfolio of products designed for intensive care units, specifically targeting the early mobilization of patients to reduce the length of hospital stays and improve health outcomes.
The Total Lift Bed can move patients from a flat, supine position to a standing position without the patient leaving the bed, according to VitalGo Systems Ltd. It is used globally to support rehabilitation protocols for high-acuity patients, including those receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy.
Impact of Early Mobility on Patient Outcomes
Research suggests that initiating rehabilitation earlier in an intensive care stay can reduce the functional consequences of immobility, such as muscle wasting, physical deconditioning, and pressure injuries. These conditions are often associated with higher costs of care and reduced patient throughput. The Total Lift Bed is designed to help clinicians begin recovery-focused interventions earlier, which may improve discharge readiness.
“Every additional day a patient spends in the ICU increases risk to the patient, constrains patient throughput and adds avoidable cost,” says Tim McCarty, general manager of beds and therapeutic surfaces at Agiliti, in a release. “Agiliti brings a differentiated capability to ICU teams through integrated product and service solutions targeting complications related to prolonged patient immobility. Now as the exclusive provider of the Total Lift Bed, we can further advance care for our customers’ most critical and costly patient populations.”
Agiliti provides clinical advisors to assist hospital teams with education and training on integrating these mobility interventions. The Total Lift Bed works alongside other Agiliti technologies, such as the Essentia multi-acuity bed and the Adapt Line of therapeutic support surfaces, to help clinicians safely progress patients through recovery stages.
Integrating Intensive Care Technology
The addition of the Total Lift Bed is intended to create a cohesive ecosystem for critical care environments. By standardizing therapeutic surfaces across various units, hospitals can maintain consistent care practices for nursing teams while focusing on pressure injury prevention.
“Critical care nurses need solutions that work together,” says Kristen Thurman, PTm MPT, CWS, vice president of product management and clinical affairs at Agiliti, in a release. “By aligning the latest technology in hospital bed frames and therapeutic surfaces into a ‘comprehensive’ offering, Agiliti is helping hospitals address routine complications at the bedside that have shown to drive up the cost and complexity of care. We are proud to build and bring together leading technology solutions that deliver fast and meaningful benefits for caregivers and their patients.”
