The system uses computer vision and artificial intelligence to automate patient positioning, configure settings, and provide real-time quality control feedback.

United Imaging has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its new digital radiography system, the uDR Aurora CX. The system is designed to integrate computer vision, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI) diagnostics into digital X-ray procedures.

At the core of the uDR Aurora CX is the uVERA platform, which features two uAI Vision Cameras integrated into the tube head. These cameras generate a real-time 3D model of the patient, enabling fully automated positioning. According to the company, a single button push prompts the system to adjust to the patient’s specific body shape and size. It also automatically configures collimation and exposure settings based on the model, while still allowing technologists to customize parameters.

An embedded AI quality control system operates throughout the X-ray procedure, providing real-time image quality feedback and preventative alerts to the technologist. This feature is intended to help reduce the need for repeat exams and minimize patient radiation exposure. The system also offers retrospective quality analysis to provide data for supporting departmental quality programs.

Additionally, the system includes an AI image processing platform for improvements in image enhancement, tissue equalization, and multi-scale denoising, aimed at supporting high image quality at a low dose. The newly cleared system will be showcased at the upcoming Radiological Society of North America meeting.

“The uDR Aurora CX is one fantastic example of the new investment we continue to drive into the US market,” says Jeffrey M Bundy, PhD, CEO of United Imaging Healthcare North America, in a release. “There will also be other completely new products equally focused on quality and the significant workforce pressures in our marketplace. I think people will continue to be surprised by how much more we are adding to the American market in 2025, especially when they see the number of real advantages empowered by artificial intelligence that we are showcasing.”
