Siemens Healthineers is ending sales of four general imaging ultrasound systems as it shifts its focus to cardiovascular procedures and image-guided therapies.

Siemens Healthineers has ended sales of its four general imaging ultrasound systems—the Acuson Sequoia, Redwood, Juniper, and Maple—as it shifts its ultrasound business toward cardiovascular interventions and image-guided therapy.

The move, effective Oct 12, 2026, places greater emphasis on procedural imaging systems, including the Acuson Origin, P500 intracardiac echocardiography (ICE), and Freestyle, along with dedicated software and catheters. These products primarily serve electrophysiologists and interventional cardiologists performing minimally invasive procedures.

Siemens Healthineers says it will concentrate its efforts on procedural imaging, artificial intelligence (AI), and partnerships with cardiovascular device companies as part of its broader strategy to address major health challenges, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and stroke.

“Medicine is evolving, and imaging is increasingly becoming part of therapy, not just diagnosis,” says Sourabh Pagaria, head of ultrasound at Siemens Healthineers, in a release. “By concentrating our ultrasound portfolio on procedural imaging, we can apply our strengths in advanced cardiovascular imaging, ICE, software, AI, and partnerships with cardiovascular device companies to address important clinical needs and create long-term value for physicians, patients, and Siemens Healthineers.”

Siemens Healthineers is combining its Acuson Origin cardiovascular imaging platform, its ICE capabilities, software and AI tools, and partnerships with cardiovascular device companies to support physicians performing increasingly complex cardiovascular interventions. The company says its portfolio spans 2D imaging through real-time 4D ICE, supporting every stage of electrophysiology and structural heart interventions.

Siemens Healthineers says the general imaging ultrasound market remains well-served by multiple established providers. The company will continue to provide service and support for existing customers in its installed base, honoring all contractual and regulatory obligations and providing full lifecycle support, including maintenance, software updates, and transducer availability.

By narrowing its focus, Siemens Healthineers says it is positioning its ultrasound business to help shape the next generation of image-guided cardiovascular therapy.
