Royal Philips Electronics announces that it has acquired Toronto-based Traxtal Inc, a developer and manufacturer of computer assisted soft tissue navigation technologies.

Traxtal is the developper of a navigation solution, which functions as a GPS for medical instruments, displaying the instrument’s position, orientation, and trajectory on medical images such as Ultrasound or CT during the procedure. The solution is designed to improve accuracy and reduce contrast, radiation dose and interventional time in interventional radiology procedures,

Philips, who has partnered with Traxtal since 2006 for integrated soft tissue therapeutic and diagnostic navigation solutions, acquired the company, in part, to extend its reach beyond diagnosis.
