The new system is designed to support clinical assessment of gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatic diseases.

Olympus Corp and Canon Medical Systems USA have announced the US launch of the Aplio i800 EUS premium ultrasound system.

Manufactured by Canon Inc and distributed exclusively by Olympus for gastroenterology and pulmonary endoscopic use in the US and its territories, including Puerto Rico, and Bermuda, the system offers image processing technology to support clinical assessment across a range of gastrointestinal procedures. The launch is part of a strategic partnership intended to address rising rates of liver and pancreatic diseases in the US.

Advanced endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) technologies help clinicians detect disease and improve diagnostic confidence, which may limit the need for more invasive procedures, according to the press release. The system provides high-resolution visualization and includes imaging tools such as Shear Wave Elastography, Attenuation Imaging, Superb Micro-vascular Imaging, and Smart 3D. These tools are designed to allow clinicians to perform evaluations within a single EUS-guided workflow.

“The Aplio i800 EUS system elevates the capabilities of our ultrasound portfolio to support clinicians in achieving improved efficiency and more confident diagnoses within the hepato-pancreato-biliary anatomy,” says Miquel Àngel García, executive vice president and general manager for gastrointestinal solutions at Olympus Corporation, in a release. “Our strategic partnership with Canon Inc reflects a continued focus on innovation designed to meet evolving clinical needs and expand the possibilities of endoscopy-enabled care.”

The system is designed to provide visualization of deep structures and tissue characteristics from within the gastrointestinal tract. This is particularly important for patients with suspected liver or pancreatic disease, where initial findings may be difficult to discern using conventional imaging alone, according to the companies.

“Liver disease spans a wide and complex range of pathologies, demanding imaging solutions that deliver clarity, consistency, and clinical confidence,” says Marvin Ryou, MD, director of endoscopic innovation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in a release. “The Aplio i800 EUS system advances endoscopic liver assessment with its next-generation quantitative technologies — Shear Wave Elastography and Attenuation Imaging.”

John Serovich, vice president of the ultrasound/x-ray business unit at Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc, says the partnership with Olympus is a step forward in elevating the future of EUS, in a release.

Olympus will provide live demonstrations of the system at the 2026 Digestive Disease Week in Chicago, held May 3-5.
