Saint Louis University Hospital, St Louis, purchased seven CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems and six CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit kits to improve image quality and reduce dose. These Carestream Health DR systems are expected to capture 75,000 exams a year. The radiology department conducts an additional 105,000 radiographic exams with other modalities including CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, interventional radiography, ultrasound, and PET.

Since the wireless DRX detectors interface with the hospital’s wireless network, images from any location are transmitted to the PACS in 25 seconds. Physicians have the option to view medical images on workstations throughout the hospital or on the portable imaging system’s monitor if they are at a patient’s bedside. As a teaching hospital, widespread access to images also helps physicians educate residents and attending physicians.
