Royal Philips Electronics and Russian medical equipment manufacturer Electron announce a partnership to develop and produce products, such as CT and ultrasound, specifically for the Russian health care market.
The partnership will initially focus on the first jointly-developed CT scanner, which will be launched later this year. Future expansion will focus on magnetic resonance (MR), x-ray, and ultrasound systems.
Development and manufacturing will be performed locally at Electron‘s St Petersburg production site.
This cooperative approach aims to reduce Russia’s dependence on health care equipment imports. The companies hope that 51% of all high-tech components used in products manufactured by Philips-Electron will be developed and produced locally in Russia in three years time.
The two companies will work together on all levels of the development processes: from joint development of new technologies to providing a technology base for clinical research and training programs for doctors.
