Stephen Grimes, a nationally recognized expert and speaker on healthcare technology management issues ranging from device integration to security and risk management, has joined 24×7‘s editorial board. Currently a managing partner and principal consultant with Strategic Healthcare Technology Associates LLC, Grimes previously spent 8 years as chief technology officer with ABM Healthcare Support Services. Over the years, he has shared his insights on the HTM field in several articles for 24×7.
Grimes has more than 35 years’ experience working with hospitals, shared service organizations, and healthcare consulting and research firms. He serves as an HTM consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and is a past president of the American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE). He currently chairs the Medical Device and Patient Safety Workgroup for the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and previously chaired the group’s Medical Device Security Workgroup. For the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), Grimes is an editorial board member for BI&T, a board member of the AAMI Credentials Institute, and a member of AAMI’s Medical Equipment Management Standards Committee.
Grimes has received recognition for a number of organizations, including being named as a fellow for HIMSS, AACE, and the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). In 2011 he received the ACCE/HIMSS Excellence in Clinical Engineering & Information Technology Synergies Award, and earlier this year ACCE recognized him with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Grimes is a graduate of Purdue University’s Biomedical Engineering program.
