I am always on the lookout for resources clinical engineers and BMETs can use to help them at work and to study for certification exams. Ivan Joyner, CBET, started BMETNOW.com in 2007. Offering “informative and somewhat entertaining” content, he encourages biomeds to get in the kNow.

Joyner told 24×7 the content comes from his nearly 30 years in the medical instrumentation field and years spent teaching biomedical classes at a local technical school. “My goal is to show that the biomed field is pretty exciting,” Joyner said. “Biomeds are some of the most interesting people I know. Every biomed shop has that guy who is bringing in his guitar amp for some after-hours repairs or showing off his motorcycle in the parking lot at lunch. My greatest fear is if we don’t show that side we may lose the next generation.”

He said that BMETNOW is free for basic access, forums, and basic membership. Due to recent increases in Web hosting costs, he has added some revenue generating features, such as premium access and eBooks.

Have you been to the site? How has it helped you? Joyner said he is always open to feedback, so take a look and let him know how it has helped you and if you have suggestions.

“There is an African proverb that says, ‘When an old man dies, a library burns’ … I’m just trying to empty my library,” Joyner said.
