Siemens Healthcare, Erlangen, Germany, has donated medical equipment to the China Red Cross and the Sichuan Provincial Healthcare Bureau, aiding in medical treatment of survivors of the May 12 earthquake that struck the Chinese province of Sichuan.

The equipment, used to diagnose trauma and internal injuries, includes two SIREMOBIL Compact L mobile surgical C-arms and two SONOLINE Premier color ultrasound systems.

Siemens Healthcare China’s customer service team established a 24-hour emergency task force to remote-monitor operation of medical equipment at local hospitals and provide technical support to equipment of all brands in the disaster zone. The team had contacted 79 regional hospitals within 24 hours after the temblor.

The remote-diagnostic system linked the hospital in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan, with a remote hospital in Mianzhu city, in the center of the affected area some 70 kilometers away. More than 600 patients have been diagnosed with the system.

The company’s overall contribution of EUR 540,000 includes a donation of EUR 180,000 in cash.
