The University of Mississippi Medical Center has implemented Agfa’s Enterprise Imaging Platform in an effort to achieve its enterprise-wide image management goals. Agfa’s enterprise imaging platform consolidates imaging data from various service lines and provides secure access to patients’ medical images.

The Jackson-based University of Mississippi Medical Center is the state’s only academic health science center and comprises two community hospitals, a Level I trauma center, and the 500-physician-strong faculty group University Physicians.

Because of its enterprise-wide approach to image management, the University of Mississippi Medical Center will also be able to consolidate hardware and storage, while enabling clinicians to share access and visualize imaging data—regardless of the location from which they practice medicine. With this functionality from Agfa, the academic medical center can create an image-enhanced patient record that supports clinical decision-making and better prepares the health care organization for improved quality and a value-based approach to care.

Of great interest to the University of Mississippi Medical Center is Agfa’s ability to provide secure access to images throughout its geographically disparate health system—a major asset to Trauma I hospitals.

“The spirit of our relationship with [the University of Mississippi Medical Center] is to assure their clinicians have swift access to clinical imaging and multimedia content to bring clinical value and gain efficiency across all care settings,” says Frank Pecaitis, senior vice president of North American sales at Agfa HealthCare. “We are thrilled that [the University of Mississippi Medical Center] selected us and, in doing so, recognized that Agfa’s Enterprise Imaging platform will enable them to lower cost by consolidating their IT infrastructure while making valuable clinical information an organizational asset to all necessary stakeholders.”
