Phlips announces a new configuration that combines its Briliance CT Big Bore oncology suite with its Ambient Experience, designed to increase comfort and reduce treatment times for cancer care.
The unique configuration is now in place at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center.
Philips Ambient Experience allows patients to personalize their CT area’s lighting and sound, allowing them to create an environment such as a beach setting to enhance relaxation.
Philips’ Brilliance CT Big Bore Oncology suite also includes comfort-enhancing features such as a wide scanner opening for patients, which enables clinicians to place patients’ bodies in a wide variety of positions.
“Entering a CT for radiation therapy planning can be very scary for patients, so allowing them to choose the lighting and sound … can help to put them at ease with their surroundings,” says Nilam Ramsinghani, MD, chair of UC Irvine’s Department of Radiation Oncology. “The lighting also makes the space appear larger, which helps to further calm patients and alleviate feelings of claustrophobia.”
