Ultrasound device manufacturer Civco Medical Solutions has acquired PCI Medical, a producer of ultrasound transducer disinfectant systems based in Deep River, Conn. This acquisition equips Civco with a portfolio of hardware and consumables to meet the need for infection control compliance in the ultrasound transducer reprocessing market.

The PCI product line complements Civco’s ultrasound infection control transducer covers, needle guidance systems, and interventional procedure kits. Civco’s Multi-Modality Imaging business unit has been a distributor of PCI storage racks and soaking systems in the United States for more than 10 years. And the addition of PCI’s Astra line of devices, which received FDA 510(k) clearance in November, extends Civco’s reach into cardiology, as well as men’s and women’s health.

The Astra TEE, designed for automatic high-level disinfection of transesophageal ultrasound probes, and the Astra VR—designed for automated high-level disinfection of transvaginal and transrectal probes—enable clinicians to develop a standardized workflow, save time, and automate the recordkeeping process. These devices also help facilities follow Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and FDA guidelines for transducer reprocessing and storage.

“We are excited to expand our portfolio…[and] this offering fits well with our current call points in radiology, men’s and women’s health, and infection control departments,” says Civco President Charles Klasson. He adds that the acquisition will also help the company expand its presence in the United States.
