The eight-year agreement will provide hospital-level care at home for 15,000 patients annually to help manage clinical workloads.
Philips, along with partners Cuviva and Vingmed, has been selected to support Region Stockholm’s first region-wide hospital-at-home initiative. The program is designed to deliver hospital-level care for up to 15,000 patients annually in their homes.
The agreement, which could last up to eight years, followed a tender led by Karolinska University Hospital. The initiative aims to support more than 2 million people in the Stockholm region by combining remote-monitoring technologies with connected care pathways to reduce pressure on clinical staff and hospitals.
Remote Monitoring for Complex Conditions
Publicly owned hospitals and primary care facilities in the region will use the technology to monitor patients with chronic or complex conditions. The system tracks clinical parameters, including oxygen saturation and ECG data, which is available in near real time to healthcare professionals.
The platform also facilitates direct interaction through video consultations, secure chat, and assigned care pathways. These tools are intended to support early detection of clinical deterioration and ongoing patient assessment.
A Multi-Partner Model
The consortium combines various specialties to manage the regional program. Philips provides expertise in patient monitoring and data integration. Cuviva serves as the core technology provider, offering a secure IT platform for digital monitoring and communication. Vingmed is responsible for the clinical measurement devices used in the home, including pulse oximetry and blood pressure monitors, as well as the management of the equipment.
The initiative aligns with regional healthcare priorities, including responding to an aging population and addressing workforce shortages.
“This collaboration represents a shift in how we deliver and experience healthcare in Sweden,” says Julia Strandberg, chief business leader of connected care at Philips, in a release. “Together with our consortium partners, we’re combining digital innovation, clinical expertise, and remote monitoring to reach more patients, ease pressure on healthcare systems, and create a scalable model for connected, sustainable, patient-centered care across Europe.”
