The ECRI Institute Patient Safety Organization (PSO) today announced the launch of what it describes as “the first multi-stakeholder partnership to generate new knowledge on safe health IT practices.” Dubbed the Partnership for Promoting Health IT Patient Safety, the collaborative effort aims to create a national framework to “identify health IT safety issues within a non-punitive learning environment to improve health IT patient safety.”

According to ECRI, the new program is the first of its kind, and will bring together health IT vendors, providers, professional societies, PSOs, policymakers, and others concerned with IT-related patient safety. The partnership will allow members to tap “into pooled expertise to study health IT-related events and hazards, identify promising solutions and best practices, and engage stakeholders in sharing the lessons learned,” according to ECRI.
