A new system intends to streamline monitoring and alerting when notices and recalls on products are issued. Alerts Tracker Automatch from ECRI Institute, Plymouth Meeting, Pa, automatically compares alerts on medical supplies to a hospital’s inventory. It then notifies appropriate staff, helping reduce the time it takes to find and address products.

In recall situations, manual review can take upwards of 2 hours. Automatch can ID potentially affected products in an inventory in about 10 minutes.

One facility using Automatch reported that out of the 117 OR alerts published by ECRI Institute over the past month, six were automatched directly to its supply inventory, representing a 95% reduction in the alerts requiring careful scrutiny (of products not in its inventory).
