Carestream Health has announced the release of its third generation of DRX detectors that are designed to be faster and lighter than previous generations and offer more features for higher productivity and improved image quality. The company reports that the new Carestream DRX Plus 3543 and DRX Plus 3543C detectors have received FDA 510(k) clearance and are available in the United States and Europe. They will soon be available in other countries as they receive local regulatory approvals.
According to Carestream, its new detectors have higher detective quantum efficiency to enable improved image quality and lower dose, and can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes without failure, which achieves IPX Level 7 rating for liquid resistance and the IEC standard 60529. A reduced weight and thinner profile is said to allow easier handling. The new detectors also have a fast frame rate that provides compatibility with advanced applications in the future, tri- and bi-color LEDs for improved feedback of detector status, as well as on-detector calibration file storage for faster setup of the detector on multiple systems.
Other features include faster calibration time, boot time, preview time, and full-resolution display time boost workflow. The new detector designs also have beam detect mode (for room retrofit applications) to eliminate the need for cable connection to the generator, and the battery life has been significantly increased to enable more imaging between battery changes and a battery hot swap that allows a quick battery change without a reboot.
Carestream’s DRX Plus 3543 detector is designed for general radiography imaging, while the DRX Plus 3543C cesium iodide detector is designed for pediatric and other dose-sensitive applications. Each DRX detector is intended to work with all other DRX systems within a provider’s environment, and the company says these detectors also can be inserted into almost any existing x-ray system to deliver enhanced functionality.
