The Illinois Health Information Management Association, a professional health information management organization, and the Greater Chicago Chapter of HIMSS (GCCHIMSS), a cause-based organization focused on improving health care with the best use of health information technology, have joined forces for Advocacy Day on May 14 to May 15 at the Hilton Springfield in Springfield, Ill. In this joint, annual Advocacy Event, ILHIMA and GCCHIMSS will present “Health Information in Action.”

The two organizations developed this event to lend insight into the current Illinois Health Information Exchange (HIE) environment. This event provides professionals the opportunity to hear information first-hand from the policy makers and physicians working within the HIE and electronic health care environment.

During the first day, a panel of state government and health IT leaders will provide insight into e-health and the important role of the health information exchange. The interactive discussion offers attendees insight into what’s happening throughout Illinois and an opportunity to join the discussion. Immediately following the educational session and panel discussion with State officials will be a networking reception and an opportunity to meet colleagues and other professionals.

During the second day, the attendees will have the opportunity to represent their organizations and meet with their legislators.
