After languishing in the previous session of Congress, legislation aimed at both promoting and regulating new IT technologies in health care has been reintroduced by Rep Mike Honda of California. The bill would create an Office of Wireless Health within FDA and a mobile health support program in the Department of Health and Human Services. In addition, it would promote efforts to innovate within health IT and encourage the dissemination of new technology. According to Honda, “New and emerging healthcare technologies are being developed every day, often with little support for their long-term reach. This legislation seeks not only to improve healthcare delivery, but to ensure that our government agencies have the tools they need to encourage innovation.”
