Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is utilizing AeroScout’s Wi-Fi RFID asset management and temperature monitoring solutions. The academic medical center is using AeroScout’s RTLS to track and manage more than 2,500 assets in nine of its inpatient buildings. The hospital plans to add another 1,000 items by the end of 2011.

The asset tracking system utilizes OHSU’s Cisco Unified Wireless Network, avoiding the need for a separate network. It also features MobileView software, which enables staff to find items on-screen rather than doing a physical search.

In addition to equipment tracking, OHSU also uses AeroScout technology to monitor the temperature of refrigerators and freezers, as well as the ambient temperatures in many rooms and locations.

The temperature tracking system allows OHSU to wirelessly track the temperatures of refrigerators and freezers that store pharmaceuticals, lab reagents, lab specimens, and other materials. The solution automatically records data, which allows staff to worry about more important tasks than manually tracking the temperatures.
