Excel Medical, Jupiter, Fla, announced on June 6 that Inova, a not-for-profit healthcare system based in Northern Virginia, has chosen the company’s BedMasterEx solution to integrate with Inova’s Epic electronic health records (EHR) system. The rollout of the BedMasterEx platform will ultimately span all five Inova hospitals, representing more than 825 monitored beds.
As described by Excel Medical, BedMasterEx is software that acquires and stores physiological waveforms, vital signs, and clinical alarms from cardiac monitoring systems and medical devices across the hospital enterprise. All data is time aligned and stored indefinitely, or as determined by each department. The client interface to the software allows clinicians and researchers to visualize medical data such as physiological waveforms, vital sign trending, clinical alarms, and digital shift report data. According to Excel, the client can be deployed on any standard Windows workstation or with thin-client technologies such as Citrix.
Rebecca Arthur, manager, biomedical information systems at Inova, said, “What started out as part of our Epic MDI project for improving patient data transfer and storage capabilities quickly expanded to several use cases once we started using the BedMasterEx platform and saw the breadth of what it could do.” According to Arthur, the system “allows our clinicians, techs and nurses to communicate patient data more effectively, trend and view cardiac waveforms with ease, and archive this critical information for future reference and use.”
