El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) in El Centro, Calif, is using the Electronic Medical Information Exchange (eMix) cloud-based technology for sharing imaging studies and reports with outside medical facilities. The technology will assist ECRMC when, for example, relaying trauma patient images to the University of California San Diego Medical Center. Previously, ECRMC used CDs to transfer radiology files.
The technology also allows local physicians to share patient information as long as each has access to a broadband Internet connection. There is no software or hardware to maintain for any eMix user. The solution makes it possible to securely send radiology images and patient reports to outside facilities.
