The device features a cloud-based platform for secure data transfer, streamlined software upgrades, and customizable configurations for clinical workflows.

Baxter International has launched its Welch Allyn Connex 360 Vital Signs Monitor after receiving 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration. The new patient monitoring device is designed with an advanced connectivity and security platform, customizable configurations, and upgrade capabilities for future enhancements.

The monitor captures vital signs for adult, pediatric, and neonate patients, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and blood oxygen levels. According to the company, care teams can obtain a full set of vitals in less than one minute and automatically send the data to the electronic medical record (EMR), which helps to reduce manual entry errors.

“Care teams rely on vital signs monitoring to help detect changes in their patients’ conditions and make informed decisions,” says Julie Foster, president of front line care at Baxter, in a release. “With Connex 360, we are advancing patient monitoring to provide care teams with the timely insights they need at the bedside, so they can make the most of every moment with their patients.”

Focus on Connectivity and Maintenance

A key technical feature of the Connex 360 is its integration with Baxter’s cloud-based DeviceBridge platform. This platform is engineered to facilitate secure and accurate data transfer from the monitor to hospital IT systems, including the EMR. DeviceBridge also supports secure device access and data interoperability across other connected Baxter devices.

From a security standpoint, the monitor includes features such as end-to-end encryption and certificate-based authentication to protect patient and facility data.

For healthcare technology and IT teams, the device is designed to streamline maintenance. Software upgrades for clinical, operational, and cybersecurity enhancements can be managed to reduce the burden on hospital staff and allow for new functionality to be added over time. The monitor also features customizable Early Warning Score protocols to alert clinicians to patient deterioration and configurable monitoring modes to support different clinical needs.

The Welch Allyn Connex 360 Vital Signs Monitor is now available for order by hospitals and health systems in the US.
