Summit Imaging, an ultrasound medical equipment support company based in Seattle, announced that the company is expanding its services to support portable ultrasound systems. The move is intended to provide clinical engineers who have adopted portable machines with rapid, end-to-end customer support in response to growing customer demand. According to the announcement, Summit Imaging is one of the first third-party ultrasound repair companies to offer support for portable machines.

Portable ultrasound machines have become increasingly popular in recent years because their small size enables healthcare providers to use the machines in rural areas or emergency situations, scanning patients in locations where space is limited or mobility is necessary. Because of this flexibility and efficiency, the market has seen increasing demand, according to Summit.

Previously, clinicians who used portable machines have relied on original equipment manufacturers for maintenance repairs, which can lead to repair delays. Summit anticipates that its new support services for portable ultrasound machines will help hospitals and clinical engineers lower their total cost of ownership.

Summit Imaging now offers repairs on GE and Philips portable laptop systems and transducers, supporting full probe and system repair for the following units:

  • GE portable units:
    • Logig E
    • Vivid I
    • Vivid Q
    • Voluson E
    • Voluson I
  • Philips portable units:
    • CX50

The company also provides a full evaluation and discovery report on a customer’s portable ultrasound transducer or system within six business hours of the system’s arrival at Summit Imaging’s facility, and backs each repair with a 6-month warranty.
