New musculoskeletal and vascular probes for SuperSonic Imagine’s Aixplorer ultrasound system have received FDA 510(k) clearance, the company announced on December 1.

The SHL20-6 probe, a high-frequency transducer shaped like a hockey stick, facilitates musculoskeletal and sports medicine diagnoses with very high resolution images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints, according to the company. The probe complements the linear transducer range to provide unrivalled image quality for both very superficial and deep zones.

Also cleared for US-based marketing and sales is the single crystal XP5-1 transducer, which combines high sensitivity and enhanced resolution to visualize very low blood flow. SuperSonic Imagine notes this technology is an important feature for optimal transcranial doppler (TCD) and abdominal vascular measurements.
