To help process nearly 5,000 pieces of shared inventory each month between its three campuses, the University of California San Diego (UCSD) has added a third hospital to Awarepoint’s real-time location system (RTLS) coverage.

The Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center is the latest hospital to employ the asset tracking solution, which now features both sterilizable and temperature monitoring tags to help hospitals keep track of a greater variety of medical equipment.

Awarepoint tags broadcast low-power radio messages to offer hospitals persistent room level location accuracy on an enterprise-wide basis. The company provides a 100% wireless network of plug-in sensors, which is maintained separate from Wi-Fi networks to eliminate interference.

UCSD regularly relies on shared inventory  to maximize efficiency and utilize each of its operating rooms to its fullest capacity.
