Hitachi Medical Systems America Inc has announced the first US installation of the company’s Supria CT system, which was recently added to Diagnostic Imaging Services (DIS) in Metairie, La, to upgrade the organization’s CT scanner services.

The Hitachi Supria CT combines radiation dose-saving technologies in a compact system with enhanced patient access to comfortably accommodate a wide range of patient sizes, including bariatric patients. The Supria CT has high speed scanning capability with less than 1 second per rotation. It has a 75 cm bore, which is considered one of the widest among the presently available 16/64 slice CT systems, to enable a precise and comfortable examination. Supria is designed to achieve the minimum dose and reduce image noise and artifact to provide higher quality images.

According to DIS, the Supria CT system has allowed it to provide advanced CT technology to healthcare providers and patients in a freestanding outpatient imaging environment, which means that referrals do not need to be made to a hospital in order to take advantage of advanced imaging modalities.

DIS is a large, independently-owned outpatient imaging organization in the Gulf Coast region that provides full-modality services to southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi coast. DIS offers ultra low dose CT and 3D mammography as well as an academic approach to prostate imaging with a 3T MRI study. Locations are in Metairie, Marrero, Covington, and Slidell.
