Typical 500-bed hospitals that incorporate Masimo Rainbow SET pulse CO-oximetry technology could save nearly $500,000 annually, according to a new study.

Masimo commissioned Capgemini, a global consulting business, to perform the study for a third-party evaluation of the potential financial benefits of its Rainbow SET product, which performs noninvasive total hemoglobin (SpHb) monitoring.

The study found that incorporating SpHb monitoring into facilities could lead to financial benefits by helping clinicians prevent unnecessary blood transfusions, identify internal bleeding earlier, and increase patient throughput.

In addition, the study found that the majority of anesthesiologists and two thirds of surgeons believed that SpHb monitoring could prevent at least 10% of unnecessary blood transfusions.
