The expanded commitment will supply additional medical technologies, including ultrasound systems, to the nonprofit’s hospital ships providing surgical care in Africa.
Mindray North America has deepened its commitment to Mercy Ships, a nonprofit operating civilian hospital ships, through an expanded partnership. The collaboration reinforces Mindray’s long-term global support for the organization, which provides free surgeries and medical training in Africa.
Through the partnership, Mindray North America will equip Mercy Ships’ two hospital vessels, the Global Mercy and Africa Mercy, with medical technologies designed to enhance patient care and support clinical teams. The donation includes multiple new ultrasound systems, adding to the more than 350 Mindray systems already in operation across the fleet.
Mercy Ships operates in regions with limited access to surgical care, serving communities where, in some cases, over 95% of the population cannot access necessary procedures. The hospital ships provide a platform for volunteer medical professionals to deliver care and training to local healthcare workers.
“At Mindray, we are driven by a vision of better healthcare for all. Our partnership with Mercy Ships allows us to live out this mission, ensuring that leading-edge medical technologies reach those who need them most, even in the most challenging environments,” says Wayne Quinn, president, Mindray North America, in a release. “By delivering robust, reliable solutions and supporting caregivers with advanced tools, we empower clinicians to provide life-changing care.”
Supplying Medical Technology for Challenging Environments
Mindray’s global organization began its relationship with Mercy Ships in 2017, providing devices and technical support. The equipment currently used on the ships includes patient monitors, anesthesia machines, ultrasound machines, defibrillators, and central monitoring solutions.
The expansion to formally include Mindray North America solidifies the company’s role in supporting the nonprofit’s medical infrastructure. According to the organizations, the partnership aims to help deliver over 50,000 surgeries while building lasting healthcare capacity in the regions served.
