At his presentation at the AAMI 2014 conference on Sunday, Scot Copeland announced the availability of a new software application that he hopes will speed the pace of medical device integration.

A lead clinical systems specialist at Scripps Health, Chula Vista, Calif, Copeland has partnered with Awareness Communication Technology to produce a software program he calls the Medical Device Interoperability Incubator. Copeland’s goal for the Windows 7 and 8 application is to create a community of interest around the topic of interoperability.

Ultimately, Copeland says, he hopes that the incubator will offer a substantial body of information and discussion around the topic from both healthcare providers and manufacturers. If the effort is successful, he says, the end result will be “a large body of evidence for what the healthcare industry believes should be done to achieve interoperability.”
