Dean Kamen will present the 2012 UBM Canon’s Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) Lifetime Achievement Award to Thomas Fogarty during the MDEA award ceremony on May 23, 2012.

Kamen will present Fogarty with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2012 MDEA awards ceremony during the MD&M East conference and tradeshow in Philadelphia on May 23. Before the awards ceremony, Fogarty and Kamen will participate in a live Q&A panel lead by UBM’s Director of Content, Rich Nass. The panel will be held from 2:30- 3:00pm on the MD&M East show floor.

Kamen is an inventor, an entrepreneur, and advocate for science and technology. He has more than 440 US and foreign patents and invented the first wearable infusion pump and the first wearable insulin pump for diabetes. Some of the many devices Kamen has worked on include the HomeChoice peritoneal dialysis system, Hydroflex surgical irrigation pump, the Crown stent, iBOT mobility device, and the Segway Human Transporter. Kamen was awarded the National Medal of Technology in 2000, the Lemelson-MIT Prize 2002, and has been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2005.
