The program expansion includes two additional Da Vinci Xi models cleared by the FDA and the opening of new repair facilities in Texas and Arizona.
Encore Medical Device Repair is expanding its remanufactured robotic instrument offerings and repair services through an exclusive partnership with Restore Robotics. The expansion follows the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearing two additional Da Vinci Xi models for remanufacturing.
The program expansion allows hospitals to capture savings across a broader portion of robotic instrument spending, according to the company. Additional clearances are expected before the end of the year.
“These additional FDA clearances mark another major step forward in our effort to transform the economics of robotic surgery,” says Clif Parker, chief executive officer of Restore Robotics, in a release. Parker notes the expansion allows healthcare providers to reduce costs while maintaining performance and reliability.
The announcement comes as Encore expands its instrument repair activities under its asset stewardship program. The company has opened new repair labs in Dallas and Scottsdale, Arizona, and tripled its fleet of mobile repair vans and satellite repair facilities within the past year.
“US healthcare facilities are fed up with instrument repair services that have inconsistent quality, completely lack price transparency, and often leave the healthcare facility with the need to replace instruments that could have been repaired by instrument repair specialists with the right training, background, quality system, and access to parts,” says Tom Milano, chief operating officer of Encore Medical Device Repair, in a release.
In addition to repair services, Encore has built out its sterile processing assessment and education program, according to the company. Through targeted intervention in instrument handling, water monitoring, and other areas, consultants help healthcare facilities prepare for Joint Commission inspections through systematic training and facility-wide compliance.
