Recently, George Mills of The Joint Commission held a Webinar addressing the regarding the CMS decision to require hospitals to adhere, without deviation, to the maintenance methods recommended by the equipment manufacturers (see our January 31, 2012 blog on this topic).
This has raised the ire of biomeds, clinical engineers, and others in the health care technology management profession. According to Mills’ estimates, nationwide the cost for this change to be $2 to $5 billion for health care.
The Joint Commission conducted a survey on this topic and it’s compiling results, but in the meantime—did you take the survey? How do you feel this CMS ruling will affect you? Have you participated in any groups to oppose this?
