The ECRI Patient Safety Organization (PSO) on October 28 announced the release of a new Health IT hazard reporting system to identify potential health IT risks. Called the Health IT Hazard Manager, the system relies on common formats from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and a standardized taxonomy to collect, manage, and interpret data.
The project allows healthcare providers to identify risk areas and target problems before they contribute to user error or compromise patient care. The system is integrated into ECRI’s event reporting platform and was developed through a federally funded initiative led by Abt Associates with ECRI Institute and Geisinger Health System’s Patient Safety Institute.
