Federal Rules Require Unique Device Identifiers in EHRs

To improve the way healthcare providers can track the safety and performance of medical devices, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have issued final rules requiring that unique device identifiers be included in patients’ electronic health records. The final CMS rule will become effective Dec. 15, 2015.

CareFusion Infusion Pump Installation Ensures Bidirectional Interoperability

WellSpan Health, a regional health system based in south central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland, has implemented CareFusion infusion pumps across all four WellSpan hospitals. The WellSpan York Hospital has become the first facility to simultaneously go live with new infusion pumps and bidirectional interoperability between the infusion devices and the electronic health record.
